Glassworks Studios is a new online fashion and lifestyle boutique that provides the fashion conscious woman with the newest and hottest designer pieces from the comfort of her own computer chair. This online boutique is bringing some of the most exclusive collections and designers to the UK. We had a chat with Lauren Lewis, the founder of Glassworks Studios, to find out what it was all about!
What is Glassworks Studios?
Glassworks Studios is an online fashion and lifestyle boutique that offers a tight selection of stylish contemporary fashion as well as select lifestyle items to suit our customers’ needs. We cater to time starved women who love fashion, travel and design and want unique pieces that are well made and set in a luxurious environment but with more intelligent pricing than she finds in typical upscale retailers and boutiques.
Why did you decide to create Glassworks?
I began planning a business in fashion retail when I was at university in New York but chose to start a career in finance to learn how businesses operate and access funding on an international scale, while pursuing coursework at FIT in New York and Central Saint Martins in London on the side. My banking experience allowed me to travel and live around the world starting in New York then Tokyo, London and finally Dubai. Through years of planning, I saw a significant increase in the number of women with healthy personal income, who wanted product that was higher quality and more unique than the high street, but with more accessible price points than luxury retailers offer. So instead of entering the flooded luxury market or high street domain, I decided to create a chic online boutique with product and service that reflects the needs and wants of our demographic.
Who are your favourite designers within Glassworks?
The portfolio is a collection of many of my favourite contemporary brands, especially the Fall Winter 10 portfolio which has nearly doubled in size, so it’s difficult to choose. Some of my favourites include Loeffler Randall for its uncomplicated balance between classic and cool, Gryphon for its gorgeous embellishment and Siwy Denim for the amazing fit and fabric. All three brands have managed to build a strong fashion editor and celebrity following while remaining dedicated to their individual design aesthetics.
What are your favourite pieces?
There are so many but my absolute must haves this season are Loeffler Randall’s scribble print dress, Gryphon’s silver sequin T-shirt, IRO’s leather motorcycle jacket and Riller & Fount’s Pearl dress. The latter is from the new jersey line started by denim powerhouse J Brand and the fabric is unbelievably soft and look great for day and night.
What are you hoping to achieve with Glassworks?
I hope to build a fashion and lifestyle brand that is authentic, creative and a reliable source for our customers’ fashion and lifestyle needs. So many women in our target audience travel internationally for work or holiday and spend time thinking about travel and design in addition to fashion. These women – who successfully manage busy lives be it career, family or friends – are often actively interested in fashion and lifestyle and a single go to source for them is lacking in the market. We hope to become a trusted destination for these women.
